Explore our range of eDNA sampling kits

Syringe sampling

Our syringe samplers are manual filtration-based kits which are compact and lightweight. Using a large barrel syringe, water is pushed through a combination of filters to capture eDNA material from a liter of water.

  • Turbid filter (5.0 µm): For high-turbidity environments such as wetlands, lakes with suspended algae, or other water bodies with lots of organic matter.

*Both filters available in 6-replicate kits.

Passive sampling

Passive samplers get deployed in flowing water for a 24-48 hour period, requiring two visits to a site to collect your sample. Designed to capture a larger window of biological activity, making them more suited for detecting terrestrial species such as birds and mammals.

Soil/scat/specimen sampling

Our soil/scat/specimen kit makes sampling easy. Just put a small amount of material into a Falcon tube, top with boiling water, and syringe the slurry through a filter. Our kit enables genetic sequencing of soils, plants, animals, scats, and stomach contents.

Swab and small reptile sampling

Swab

Small reptile

Just swab the surface, place the swab into the preservative tube, snap off the excess stick, and seal everything in the sample bag.

  • Ideal for direct specimen swabbing, nest boxes, burrows and other spots where animals leave behind trace DNA.

Designed to detect the presence of lizards and other small reptiles by collecting trace DNA left behind as they move through a purpose-built tunnel.

  • Ideal for monitoring cryptic or hard-to-spot species without handling wildlife directly.

Non-Wilderlab samples

While we fully recommend using Wilderlab kits to ensure the highest standards of quality, traceability, and affordability, we understand this is not always possible. We do accept samples collected using non-Wilderlab kits, provided they meet the following criteria:

  • Extracts (Plate Form Only) — Extracts are permitted only in plate format and must meet specific preparation and shipping requirements to be accepted.

    • Please note that extract submissions take longer to process, as they fall outside our standard workflow and require additional handling.
  • To analyse non-Wilderlab filters using our BYO Filter kit, please reach out to us at info@wilderlab.co to speak with our technical team

NOTE: All non-Wilderlab samples must be submitted with a completed sample manifest to ensure accurate processing and chain-of-custody tracking
